Having personally photographed over 500 weddings, our style of coverage has led us to many venues around Houston. Several clients have also contracted us to travel and join their families as their destination wedding photographer.

We have continued to expand our portraiture services as our clients’ families grow in various stages of life. For example: baby portraiture, children’s portraits, high school senior portraits and family portraits are services we offer. Father’s Day 2016

Summer is here! One of my favorite hobbies is fishing; especially saltwater fishing.

This portrait was captured showing a family tradition of fishing; between a father and his son. I know down the road that the son in this portrait will appreciate this image long after his Dad is gone. With today’s ever changing technology, a printed portrait has the ability to capture a moment in time and preserve that moment for years to come. A printed portrait is timeless and appreciates over time, and is more valued as generations pass. Take the time to capture every moment and preserve the photographs of the family that you have.

Michael Carr Photography is available for destination family portraits as well as family portraits in the Houston area. Contact us to talk with us about your vision for your family portraits and what you hope to capture and preserve for years to come. Our studio is located in a professional office building, and our portfolio can be viewed here. Call 713-461-2862 to speak with us.

The Importance of a Great Headshot

Regardless of the line of work you are in, if you are promoting yourself, a great headshot is a necessity. A professional headshot is a powerful tool for making people remember you. It is very much to your advantage to provide a headshot that people can identify with and remember you by. A professional business headshot is more than just a great photo taken by a friend with an I-Phone or a hobbyist type camera. If you are using your headshot for business applications, then hire a professional photographer to capture and create a professional business headshot for you.

There are many careers that can benefit from a polished, professional headshot. Doctors, lawyers, corporate executives, realtors, oil and gas professionals, financial investors and news anchors almost always require a professional headshot.

If your clients or customers see you, then a professional headshot will help plant your face more firmly in their mind. Of course, it is important that the headshot is of the highest quality. Anyone can post a picture of themselves on an online bio page, but if it does not convey the proper image, then it will not be a benefit in the long run. Creating a great headshot may seem simple, but like so many things, the little details matter.

Here’s the burning question: how do I find a great headshot photographer?
Thanks to the internet, finding a great headshot photographer is much easier than it used to be. You should be able to find a wide assortment of professional headshot photographers just by searching for “headshots” in your favorite search engine.

Be aware that due to the recent improvements and availability of inexpensive digital photography equipment, there are a lot more people offering photography services that are not really up to professional standards. Take your time and do your research!

There are many sites you can find that will list headshot photographers in your area, but the most important thing is to find someone whose work you like. Look at a variety of headshot portfolios until you’re satisfied. Also, ask other business associates or professionals for a referral and then look at that photographer’s online portfolio. After you have narrowed down to a few photographers to consider, the next step would be to contact the studio either by phone or email and see who is a good match for you.

To discuss your business headshots and options for your business portraits, call the studio at 713-461-2862. We can help you formulate your plan for your headshot images to stand out from the masses. You can view our portfolio here. Our studio is conveniently located near the Galleria area, and close to 610, I-10 and 59, so there is easy access from those freeways.

Mother’s Day ~ A time to celebrate Mom

May is such a busy month for many people: end of school year, graduations, parties, Memorial Day, getting ready for summer, and on and on. But there is one special day that we cannot forget in May, and that is Mother’s Day. Take the time to hug your Mom and show her you love and appreciate her. I am always stumped on what to get my Mom; other than a card, and flowers. I love to give gifts, mainly because I love to see the other person’s reaction! But, my Mom, boy is she a tough one to buy for. She has everything! That is when I turn to our Portrait Studio and gift ideas. What Mom would not love a portrait of their child, or family? Here are a few ideas that any Mom would appreciate:

A Gift Certificate for a Portrait Session. Surprise your Mom with a Gift Certificate and help her plan a future session of the family. Keep it simple. She will love that you are giving her this and can schedule this when everyone is available. Another idea is a Mom and Me session. Make it all about her, the focus of your family. Treat her to time at the salon for hair and make-up before the session. She will love this time and being pampered! Purchase your Portrait Session Gift Certificate by May 7, 2016 and receive 10% added to the face value!

A printed and framed Portrait: This can be of yourself, or you and Mom, or even just the kids or grandkids. A printed Portrait is something that increases in value through the years. A portrait has the ability to take you back to that specific moment in time. She will cherish this heirloom gift, and that you hand selected it for her. We even offer custom framing so your Portrait is complete and looks finished. You don’t have to make time to go to a framer, select a frame, and then wait several weeks until it is ready. We have a full line of custom frames, and have partnered with a Master Framer that will insure your frame meets industry standards for quality and is archival.

A Portrait Album: Want to share more than 1 or 2 images with Mom? She will love the craftsmanship in our Portrait Albums. They are custom designed with many personalized detail options. An album is a great way to have your printed portraits together, and they are perfect for someone who does not have a lot of wall space, or tabletop space.

Those are a few of our popular gifts for Mom. Don’t panic! We can help with the last minute gifts. Call 713-461-2862, and we can help. Whichever gift you decide to give your Mom, she will know it was from your heart. To view more of our Portraits and learn more about us, visit here.

Certified Professional Photographers

If you visit our websites often, you may have seen a new logo or professional designation by our names: CPP. What is a CPP? What does that really mean? CPP stands for Certified Professional Photographer. Certification is only granted by Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the world’s largest non-profit association organized for professional photographers. Lisa Carr, CPP, recently earned this professional designation. I had to pass a written question test, as well as submit a portfolio or body of work for review. My portfolio had to demonstrate specific lighting, posing, color balance, and harmony in our photographs. In February 2016, over 80 photographers submitted their portfolios, and only 50% passed and earned the CPP designation. To maintain this credential, I have to recertify every 3 years. This process insures photographers remain current in our photographic field and current in our craft.
PPA includes additional info on the CPP standard and you can read about that below:

“These days, photography is practiced by anyone with a smartphone, but it’s mastered by few. When it comes to those once-in-a-lifetime moments—when you’ve got one shot at getting it right—you better make sure the person behind the camera is a pro. A proven professional photographer that is.

There’s no greater proof than when the letters “CPP” follow a photographer’s name. They designate a Certified Professional Photographer, someone who is putting in the extra work to stay above the rest. It assures you of this photographer’s professional knowledge and experience, while also declaring that photographer as one who has achieved and maintains a higher standard.

See the Difference Certified Professional Photographers Make

Consistency. CPPs know how to achieve great results—every time. You get a strong collection of images that tell your story, not a few lucky snapshots, and you will work with someone who knows how to produce a quality image under any circumstances.

Technical Skills. CPPs are more than picture takers. They are students of art, lighting, posing, fashion and even interior design. They combine these elements to create images that fit your unique style and become works of art you will treasure for generations.

Unique Artistry. CPPs have the skills to create unique, customized works of art—not cookie-cutter pictures. They follow an artistic vision. It’s your story captured as a collection of art.

Professionalism. When you hire a CPP, you know you’re getting someone who is willing to go the extra mile to deliver the best possible images. They are business owners who thrive on customer service and satisfaction, and they continuously aim to produce products that exceed your—and their—best expectations. These images are keepsakes whose stories you’ll tell time and time again and treasure forever.

Just about anyone can take a good picture every now and then. But when life’s biggest moments are unfolding and there’s just one chance to capture that perfect memory, don’t risk it. Entrust your photography needs to a Certified Professional Photographer and see the difference for yourself.”
